Scaling and polishing (cleaning) is required at least twice a year. The process involves removing of calculus (tartar) and polishing the teeth to remove stains and give them a smooth surface.

Scaling to remove the visible layer of the calculus which is over the gums is called (supra gingival scaling), the deep scaling of the hidden layer of calculus under the gums is called (sub gingival scaling). Scaling and polishing require one to several visits depending on the level of calculus and stains.

Regular professional cleaning can prevent most of the disease in the mouth and teeth.
